Fun New Things

Yesterday was a good day in terms of acquiring fun new things by surprise. On my lunch break, I met up with my Fashion Event Partner in Crime aka the lovely Holly Chaves, and we headed over to Dust PR to check out their AW11 press day. Aside from the luxurious Barbour knits and always covetable jackets, my favourite collection was from Wildfox. This season they are launching a beyond cute collection for kids and have introduced a wider variety of knits and styles for the colder season. We were lucky enough to score a Wildfox gift bag each and I'm loving my "lifeguard" cropped tee - so comfy and cute! Equally as cute is the book bag it came in - check out the palm reading print on one side, "Charming Boyfriend, Win Lottery, Live Forever" that's definitely what I tell myself when I read my own palm!

Rewind to yesterday morning and we can talk about the amazing handkerchief that I found on the 'free' table at work when I got in. It's a collab featuring Dominique Mosley's great prints and illustrations by the incredible David Longshaw - whoever didn't want this is crazy, I think it's the best thing ever! Guess it was meant to be mine all along.

Rewind just a bit more and we can talk about my loooovely new Be&D wallet, gifted to me so generously by the Hoopla PR gals - THANK YOU Hoopla gals!! I'm obsessed with the New York-based brand, they've got the best accessories. Check out my Monday outfit HERE to see me rocking the incredible Be&D Genesis bag - ooooh ahhhhhh.

The Return of Sportswear

Those who know me well, know of my former ghetto fab alter ego, Mi$$ G. Money. She was around for a few years, but just as Booty Bass parties got put on the back burner, I put away my door knocker earrings and traded them in for more subtle (sort of) clothing and accessory choices.

Lately, however, there's been an inner inkling that Mi$$y might be ready for a comeback. A sudden re-interest in trainers or "kicks", the recent purchase of my graffiti'd LAMB bag and a slightly unhealthy obsession with a certain ADIDAS Originals jumpsuit (above), have made me think she might be screaming to get out again.

While in Paris last weekend, I discussed this with my fellow Torontonian, Nina, who hails from the same party background as myself. We reminisced of our days in ridiculous outfits but how fun it all was. We agreed that Hip-Hop is so deeply ingrained in us that it would be almost impossible to ever break away. Not that we ever did, from the music at least. The next day, while walking around Chatelet, I treated myself to the above jumpsuit - yippee!

Yesterday, I realised that it is not only me who is longing for the return of street sportswear. While in the cupboard, one of the ELLE Fashion Assistants told me my beloved jumpsuit was "the BEST thing ever!" and that she had to get one too. She also expressed her current desire for trainers, and we both agreed that there is something in the air that says it's the right time for kicks and street sportswear to make a comeback.
Hence yesterday's purchase of the above leopard-print detail ADIDAS Originals kicks that I got on sale for £30 from the Office shoes website. I'm SO excited for their arrival next week! This might mark the return of ghetto fab and Mi$$ G. Money but an updated version for spring/summer 2011 - stay tuned for my next post on how ELLE wears this trend.

Opium Dreams

This is what I dream of looking like this summer. Satin, prints, jewel tones, amazing hair - just perfect. Sadly, I fear the time commitment to creating these hairstyles alone isn't really going to work out for me, I'm a bed head girl for life. But I'm on the hunt for some beautifully printed silk and satin pieces to add to my summer wardrobe stat!

4. None other than Gwen Stefani is our cover star for April and she looks SO gorgeous! Anyone who knows me will know how exciting it is for me to be in the same magazine as GS - I LOVE her! Great shoot and article as well.

5. Why WOULDN'T you buy ELLE!? In fact, you should probably sign up for a subscription, like, right now.

Before They Were Street Style Stars

1. Anna Dello Russo

2. Alexa Chung

3. Joanna Hillman

4. Leigh Lezark

5. Taylor Tomasi-Hill

Fashionista recently posted a little gallery of fashion's favourite street style stars, before they became globally recognized street style gods. It is a bit of relief to see photo evidence of their style evolution, and to realize that these people weren't just born with impeccable style and incredible, designer-filled wardrobes. Saying that, some of these photos look pretty darn old, so I guess you've got to cut the more brutal outfits some slack. Check out the full article by clicking HERE.
